Everything You Need to Know About Athens
Athens is a city rooted in its Greek history. The birthplace of democracy and now the capital city of Greece, Athens is a cultural center with fine cuisine, theater, the Acropolis, and generous Greek hospitality.
The best time to visit Athens is in the Spring. The weather is perfect and rates are reasonable. Beware of summers in Athens as they can reach high temperatures near 110 degrees F. So if you plan on going to Athens in the summer please make sure to bring a hat, light clothing, sun block, and a bottle of water everywhere you go.
Greek Hospitality
The Greek are known for their hospitality and generous ways. Athenians are laid back people who are generally accepting of all visitors. Many people in Athens know English so feel free to ask for help or directions from locals and passers-by.
Meet Athenians half way and learn a few words of Greek. People will appreciate your effort and maybe more inclined to help you.
The Acropolis
The most famous landmark in Greece is the Acropolis, and happens to be located in Athens. Ancient Greek civilization was represented on top of this hill by the Parthenon and other structures that symbolized the lavish lifestyle of the Greek gods.
The New Athens
Since the Olympics were held in Athens in 2004, the city has been revamped. It seems the over growth of Athens has caused poor air quality, busy streets, and a generally overcrowded feeling. But some of this has been made better since the renovations.
Best Hotel Value in Athens
If you want to stay in the heart of Athens, the G.R. Louis Hotel is the perfect choice with a selection of museums and a concert hall, right down the way. The hotel is known for its knowledgeable staff and quiet surroundings. Tourists will definitely enjoy their stay in Athens at the GR Louis Hotel.
Local Customs
Beware of the concrete jungle that has become Athens. With so many drivers, people have a bit of road rage. Try to stay off the streets if possible. Even pedestrians may have trouble walking across the street in a crosswalk. Athenians don't always adhere to the traffic rules.
Smoking in Athens is perfectly acceptable to locals and you can light up just about anywhere you wish. So, you probably shouldn't ask locals to go find a smoking section since that is the norm there. Independence Day is March 25th. They celebrate their Independence day with parades and celebrations making traffic congested and the city busier than ever.
"Ochi" Day, held on October 28th, is another Greek holiday. Greeks commemorate the day Mussolini's request to let Italian troops into the country at the beginning of World War II was denied. "Ochi" means "no" in Greek. You may see soldiers and tanks parading down the streets in show of Greek pride. Whenever you plan on visiting Athens, you are sure to be met with fabulous Greek food, plenty of shopping, historical monuments, and local Athenian culture and customs.

Asia - The Best Travel Destination
If the time has come for your vacation or a holiday getaway, read this article before making your plans. There are many places of great beauty and interest to be seen in the USA and Europe. But, whether transportation, touring, theme park, or food and lodging, it is expensive. This article is written for every traveler, whether a backpacker on a budget, or a first class - five star traveler.
Travel in Asia is inexpensive and opens the door to different cultural experiences. Planning can be for a short holiday, an extended stay, or choices of laying the groundwork for the ultimate stay, retirement. Nowadays, with so many opportunities to make money using the Internet it is not out of the question to "retire" early.
Medical Tourism in Asia growing in popularity. It is high quality and affordable. Just one of International standard hospitals in Bangkok serves 400,000 international patients annually, In the USA cataract surgery for one eye runs around ,000. At a prestigious International hospital in Thailand cataract surgery can be performed on both eyes for around ,500. It is possible to have quality medical care, and an Asian holiday, for a fraction of the cost of the same procedure in the USA.
Let us take a tantalizing glimpse at just some of the countries.
Thailand - Land of Smiles. Often referred to as the most exotic country in Southeast Asia. A visit to the Grand Palace in Bangkok for sure. Trips to a floating market or to the Bridge on the River Kwai. From pristine beaches in the Southern Islands to the Northern mountains with its waterfalls, elephants bathing in mountain streams, and Hill Tribe villages.
India - Delhi is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world. India Gate, an imposing structure, has emerged as one of the most popular tourist spots in Delhi. The Red Fort Delhi, a masterpiece of architecture, is a popular spot. A trip to India would not be complete without a visit to Agra, famous as the site of one of the world's most romantic, graceful and photographed buildings, the Taj Mahal.
Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos - Three small countries neighboring Thailand. Each opens a different world of exploration. Cambodia - the highlight is visiting Angkor Wat, an architectural masterpiece constructed in the jungle in the early 12th century. Vietnam - is a varied country, offering beaches, mountains and hundreds of years of history from the ancient Cham Towers to remnants from the Vietnam War. Laos - savor the crafts, culture and hospitality of Laos with a river trip, visits to ancient temples, gorgeous palaces, and traditional villages.

Indonesia - Jakarta, the capital city of the world's fourth most-populous nation. Bali is Indonesia's main holiday destination. Flores is a pretty lush green island with forests, palm and banana trees, rice fields and many volcanoes. The Ifugao Rice Terraces are a testimony to the early technological advancement of the Ifugao people. Take a jeepney ride to the market. Be brave, try balut, a Philippine delicacy. Go diving in the Visayas.
Singapore - Shopping on famous Orchard Road, the dream of every woman. The Night Safari at Singapore Zoo is fabulous. Chinatown, a little glitzy, but you can buy all the souvenirs you want there. Interestingly, one of Singapore's most beautiful Hindu temples is smack dab in the middle of Chinatown. Decide if a Singapore Sling is worth the hype in the Long Bar at Raffles Hotel. There's more to Singapore than urban glitz, like rambling in the rain forest of Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.
Japan - Tokyo is the capital city and home of the Imperial Residence and Emperor's Palace. Select a popular destination or region in Japan and explore its attractions. Ride the Bullet Train to the magnificent city of Kyoto. Visit Hiroshima and the Peace Memorial Park. Castles, temples, gardens, the list of top destinations in Japan is too long for this article..
Taiwan - Taipei, the country's booming, vibrant capital remains steeped in Chinese, Japanese and native Taiwanese cultures. Some of its most impressive sights include the Grand Hotel, topped by the largest Classical Chinese roof in the world, the Shihlin Night Market, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial with the National Theater and Concert Hall located directly across from each other on the grounds. A popular day trip is Tailuge (Taroko Gorge), considered one of the natural wonders of the world.
Hong Kong - the Pearl of East and jewel of The Orient. Nathan Road is lined with shops, restaurants, nightspots and cheap places to stay. If you're in Hong Kong with the little ones, they'll probably appreciate Ocean Park (aquarium), Water World (swimming pools and water slides), and of course Disneyland. If you're in Hong Kong for more than a few days, then there's plenty of outlying islands to discover.
It is often said that for the traveler that has seen it all and done it all, there is still Katmandu, Nepal. And, that too is in Asia!
If you do not visit Asia, you will be missing not only a paradise of affordable travel, but the chance to see an alternative living location. For retirees, it is luxury living for pennies, not just getting by on their pension. Asia, a paradise experience is waiting for you.

The Venetian Macau - World's Largest Casino and a Mecca of Shopping and Entertainment
The Venetian Macau is one of Macau best known landmarks, and while many people know it accommodates the world's most sizable casino, less than a few are aware it also has a lot to offer in terms of shopping, dining and entertainment...
This article will take you on a short tour through Venetian Macau, showing you what is there to see and do.
1) A few facts and figures you might want to know...
Owned by Sheldon Adelson's Las Vegas Sands corporation, the colossal Venetian Macau spans across an area of almost one million square meters (more than ten million square foot) and occupies the largest single structure hotel building in Asia and the fifth-largest building in the world, by area.
The largest casino on earth, which is the main reason why people come here, is modeled after its sister casino in Vegas and boasts more than half a million square foot of gambling space, as well as 3,400 slot machines and almost a thousand gaming tables.
The investment in this enormous casino-resort came to almost two and a half billion dollars.
2) The main attractions
The casino is, obviously, the Venetian's main draw... Consisting of four gaming halls, namely Golden Fish, Imperial House, Red Dragon and Phoenix, this mighty gambling shrine is open 24/7 and overshadows anything in Vegas, or elsewhere.
Next in line is "The Grand Canal Shoppes" - The biggest and swankiest shopping mall in the region, with more than three hundred stylish shops, selling mainly international brand names, and some superb restaurants and cafés, like Fogo Samba (Brazilian churrascaria), McSorley's Ale House, Morton's of Chicago (one of the world's most reputable chains of steakhouse restaurants), Edo Japanese Restaurant and, of course, Imperial House Dim Sum and Red Dragon Noodles, where you can indulge on a variety of fresh dim-sums, or noodle specialties, 24 hours a day.
As its name suggests, the Grand Canal Shoppes is designed like the city of Venice, in northern Italy, with cobblestone walkways, Venetian houses and even Gondola rides, on the mall's three manmade canals...
Quite expectedly, the Venetian Macau is not short of entertainment too... Bellini Lounge, on the casino floor, features live music nightly and is open until 4am, while the Diplomat Lounge, in the Plaza Casino at The Four Seasons Hotel Macao, is open 24 hours a day but focuses, mainly, on Chinese style entertainment.
The main entertainment attraction, however, is ZAIA, which is one of the best permanent shows in Macau. Performed by Cirque du Soleil - An internationally known group from Canada, this nightly staged spectacle integrates dance, movement and aerial acrobatics and is well worth watching.
Whether you are visiting Macau for a few days, or whether you are here for only a day trip, spending a few hours at the Venetian Macau is something you should do. What's more, there are overnight ferries from the nearby Taipa Ferry Terminal, so getting back to your hotel in Hong Kong before dawn is really a piece of cake.

How to Plan a Beijing Food Tour
Do you love Chinese cuisine? If you want to taste the essence of Chinese food, you must go on a Beijing food tour. I have been planning one for long. Last December, I have executed it and have tasted all my favourite Chinese food in Beijing before I went home.
I am Chinese and am knowledgeable of what are the best Chinese foods to eat. Here I want to walk you through my Beijing food tour, so you can have some ideas of how to plan yours.
Set Up A Food List
Many of you might know that Peking duck is the most famous Chinese food in Beijing. Other than this, what Chinese cuisine do you like? Type "best Chinese food in Beijing" into the internet and search. You'll get lots of ideas. Another source is to ask your friends who live in Beijing or who have been to China. Write down the foods that are tempting to you. Here is my food list:
o Peking Duck
o Sichuan Smoked Duck
o Lamb Hot Pot
o Imitated Imperial Meal of the Qing Dynasty
o Dan Dan Noodle
o Specialty Sauce Noodle
o Beijing Dumplings
o Mapo Tofu (spicy beancurd)
Search For Restaurants
Go through a similar process like searching for food. Search for "hot pot restaurant in Beijing" might give you a lot of suggestions. Check travel forums might also help.
Here is my targeted restaurant list:
o King of Duck - Peking Duck
o Dong Lai Shun - Lamp Hot Pot
o Sichuan Restaurant at Prince Gong's Palace - Sichuan Smoked Duck
Your restaurant list might be too long that you don't know which the best is. To make life simple, you might show your food list to hotel concierge and ask them for to suggest good and economic restaurants nearby. It does not need to be the hotel where you stay, any hotel concierge should be able to help.
You don't need to target for five star ones. Restaurants run by local people where local Beijingers do their daily meals could be the best place to have a true Beijing feel. Daojiachang is one recommended by my driver, which I found it outstandingly good in environment, food quality and price.
Getting There
If the place is not nearby, make sure to have the restaurant's Chinese name and address written on a paper and show to taxi drivers. This is important as to avoid misunderstanding and any language communication gap.
Check the Cost of Beverages
Food in Beijing is generally not expensive, but drinks are. Better find out before ordering. At the Beijing duck house, our pot of tea cost us ¥40 which is ridiculously expensive. When we checked for drink prices, we were able to order tea at ¥6 per head with refill, which is far more reasonable.
Beijing restaurants generally do not incur service charge. However some might add 10% to your bill.
Check Opening Hours
This should not be a problem for restaurants in the downtown area. However some restaurants have a break between lunch and dinner. We missed our favourite Sichuan Restaurant at the Prince Gong's Palace, without realizing that it closes daily at 2pm for lunch and re-open at 5pm for dinner.
Add Some Sightseeing Activities to Your Beijing Food Tour
You must do something in between meals in order to add colour to your food tour. The spots I have chosen are Peking University, Laoshe Tea House, Prince Gong's Palace and the Mutianyu Great Wall. Mind the time, so you have enough time to visit your favourite spots without missing any of your favourite food and restaurant.
Visit The Snack Street At Wangfujing
If eating is your main travel objective to Beijing, you must not miss the Snack Street along the Wangfujing Main Street towards Dong Chang'an Street.
The Snack Street is a place where it can make you feel hungry. The whole street is all the time full of people and yummy food. The BBQ chicken/lamb/beef sticks cost only ¥1 to ¥5 per stick. If you want to try new and funny things, pay ¥5 per stick of cocoon, pupa, cicada and ¥15 for a seahorse. You can find almost any kind of Chinese snacks from all over the country here.
Going to the Far East? Top Places You Have to See
The countries that are most commonly considered to be included in the 'Far East' are China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. When you visit the Far East, the cities that you ought to visit are Hong Kong, Osaka, Beijing, Tokyo, Hangzhou, Macau, Shanghai, Kyoto, Nagoya, Seoul and Taipei. All these cities have different attractions, which put them at the top of the list of places that one should see.
When in Beijing, you should visit Tiananmen Square, which is located in the heart of the city. You should also go to visit the Great Wall of China. Other than these, there are other places such as the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Lama Temple, Drum Tower and Bell Tower and the Summer Palace. The Forbidden City is based on many courtyards and gardens and it was home to twenty four emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties. In Hangzhou, you have to visit the West Lake, Lingyin Temple, Leifeng Pagoda, Baopu Taoist Temple and the Jiangnan Stone Garden.
Hong Kong has the new Disneyland, which is the greatest attraction there, and there are also hotels which are based on Disney themes. The Japanese capital Tokyo has the very popular Roppongi Hills, with exotic gardens and water walls, and represents the future of Japan.
Another place worth seeing is the Tokyo Tower, which is supposedly the replica of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. However, it is a little taller than the original one. If you believe in unadulterated shopping, then your ultimate visit should be to the Ginza where you can enjoy the sheer pleasure of shopping for many hours.
The most interesting sites in the Japanese city of Kyoto are the Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, Kiyomizu Temple, Kyoto Imperial Palace and the Nijo Castle. The Palace acted as the residence of the Imperial family in the year 1868. A temple that is considered a masterpiece and is the most popular among the other temples in Japan is the
Ginkakuji Temple. You should also visit the Path of Philosophy, which offers an opportunity to walk peacefully among trees and while passing the Sosui Canal and the Ginkakuji Temple.
Nagoya Castle, which is located in Nagoya, is also worth paying a visit to as it was constructed in 1612 by Ieyasu Tokugawa. For art lovers, Nagoya offers the Nagoya City Art Museum that has more than 2500 pieces of art, from local as well as international artists. In the Japanese city of Osaka, there is the Osaka Aquarium 'Kaiyukan', which is considered to be one of the largest aquariums in the world and has more than 580 species of marine animals from the Pacific. The Floating Garden Observatory in Osaka is also worth seeing.
The place that proffers to be the most attractive site of Seoul is the Gyeongbokgung Palace, which was built in 1394 by the Joseon Dynasty. The Lotte World of Seoul is the largest theme park of the world. Taiwan is home to the building which was the tallest in the world before Burj Dubai took the position. Some people might be interested in seeing the building along with many other attractions in the Far East.
